New Via Colori Info!

Hey guys I know Paige hasn’t been very clear at meetings about Via Colori so this should help.

1)       Via Colori Street Painting Festival is November 22 and 23 at Sam Houston Park-downtown. There is a set up on November 21st if you need the hours but most members are incapable of attending for transportation reasons.

2)       For parking, maps and directions to the park please go to this website:  http://www.centerhearingandspeech.org/page.aspx?id=202310

3)       The Volunteer Check-in Tent is on the corner of Bagby and McKinney . Please report here and sign in BEFORE you start your shift. You will be directed to your shift station and receive your Via Colori Volunteer shirt.

4)       Be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to park, arrive and get to the check-in booth before your shift starts. Downtown can be a bit tricky!

5)       Bring a small snack if you think you might get hungry or we have a variety of vendors at the festival if you would like to purchase food. We want you to be well taken care of!

6)       Please feel free to reach the organizer at :  kboyette@centerhearingandspeech.org with any questions you may have, she is here to help you.

7)       There is a rain plan. If the rain plan goes into effect you will receive notification through email or phone on Thursday night. The event will still take place. It will be moved to the United Way parking garage at 50 Waugh Drive Houston, TX  77007 (713) 685-2732 ‎

Also fell free to check out the Via Colori website. It has more information and beautiful pictures of the artist’s work. And if anyone is wondering WHY key club is doing this event here’s your answer.

“Via Colori brings together artists, volunteers and businesses with non-profit agencies in a unique community project to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars each year for important social causes.”

If you have any questions please feel free to ask!

*ANYONE ANYWHERE ANYTIME ANY COUNTRY ANY CITY ANY MAN AND WOMAN EVERYONE EVERYWHERE CAN WRITE LOVE ON THEIR ARMS, TAKE 5 SECOND TO WRITE IT THATS IT, DONE!**

So i have a new event for all of you. You won’t receive anything from Key Club for participating but everyone should try to spread the word.

“On November 13 write LOVE on your arm in big letters. Be creative spread the word. This is for all the survivors and all the innocent. All of the people who are hurting and who think that suicide is the only way they can turn. Also, don’t forget to donate so all of the kids in need can get the help that they deserve.”

“Depression and suicide have an impact on everyones life, whether it’s through having depression, or knowing someone who suffers from the disease or knowing someone who has committed suicide. It’s such a simple thing to do. If you can dress up for spirit week at your school, i think you can take the time to write LOVE on your arm. Its time to stand up and get the word out. Maybe someday there will be a cure for this, instead of just a treatment that could potentially make it worse. It takes just thirty seconds to write four letters. I challenge you to stand up and speak out!
I think some people are confused about what this is. All you have to do is literally write LOVE on your arm to show support. Maybe even donate money or time at your local suicide hotline. When someone asks… ‘Why is that on your arm?’ You can spread the word about depression and suicide. For some reason in our society, depression and suicide are still taboo topics that a lot of people want to keep quiet. But i think that everyone needs to start talking about it. Help is out there, and by keeping quiet we’re only hurting the people who need the help. So speak up, and speak out.”

Excerpts taken from the TWLOHA facebook. You never know how great of an impact four letters will do. Love is a movement. Spread it =]

=] HEART WALK 2008!

You sure missed out if you didn’t have the chance to go.  On November 1st, fellow key club members and myself walked three miles for survivors of heart problems. I must admit at the beginning i was skeptical about how things would run but it turned out great. We kept the walkers walking with cheers and chants from our very own cheerleaders. I hope pictures (will be up soon) from this event will put new enthusiasm into our members and encourage them to continue helping the community. We really hope to see you at the Park Clean Up, :D , its going to be one of the funnest events yet!
